the differences between previewing, pre teaching and reviewing and it's
importance in the education of special education students.
What are some modifications that you use in the classroom to aid student learning.

Previewing means you preview before hand the material that is going to be taught. You preview the material with the special needs students to help them get a better understanding. You see what is it they know what is there understanding of the subject. You have them explain to you what a picture represents in that subject or what a certain paragraph is trying to get across. This is important because we are seeing what the student is understanding.
ReplyDeletePre teaching is a way for us to help the students better understand the material. We provide the students with different ways to understand what they are learning. Such as in rereading in a slower pace or allowing them to hear the stories or problems in audio. This gives them more of a pace where they can work and understand what they are doing rather than having them just go along with the whole class.
For our students in our class we use a lot of verbal and audio work. This allows us get a better understanding on what it is they are learning. The audio lets them replay the story or problem over and go back for better understanding. This allows us to see where they are having problems if we see that they have to repeat the story several times it means they are not understanding what needs to be done which allows us to step in and assist them in that area.
I love audio. We have many of our novels on cassette tape! Our students seem to appreciate it. I have, in the past, recorded textbooks. It is very time consuming.
DeleteI agree with you, using audio is very useful to our student to better understand the subject they are doing, and yeah it is very time consuming.
DeleteYes we have a program that will read the question and answers and it makes everything so much easier to know how they are doing.
DeleteAudio learning is goo expecaly with all the Coman Core stuff the schools are doing its good for them to have audio readings, because this Comman Core stuff is way harder then what they are use to.
DeleteI agrre with you about the time consuming love audio too
DeletePreviewing is reading and discussing the text prior to it being read in class. Preteaching takes place before the class is taught and helps the student make connections and build on the subject from prior knowledge. Reviewing is done after the subject matter has been read in class. Important facts, and vocabulary words and definitions are reviewed to make sure the student understands the material.
ReplyDeleteI use a lot of paraphrasing and summarizing to help our students understand the subject. Many times in small groups, I will use the Cloze strategy. Not only can I set the pace, but all students have to follow along since they don't know when I will be stopping. Also, I can stop, without interrupting a student who is reading, and explain any important information.
Previewing is when they are prepared for upcoming material before class. It helps the student get a brief understanding of the subject before it is taught in class. If you preview the material the student is more likely to remember it.
ReplyDeletePreteaching is to introduce the material like in visual prompts or if it is vocabulary, you can give them examples of how the word is used in different context.
Review is going over the material after it has been taught in class or a process of refreshing the students minds of what they have been learning in class so they will remember it.
Some of the modifications we use in class are supplemental programs through the Internet. These programs are based on the subject they are doing in class and let's the student better understand the subject that they are learning. Some of these programs are Brainpop, Reading Eggs, and IXL.
We also do alot of programs online.
DeleteYes and the online programs work really well with the kids.
Deletewe use ixl and reading eggs. to me it makes the work seem like a game sometimes and we use our ipad and then they get excited to work with the iPad
DeleteWe do once a day to get online and do reading eggs or abc mouse which helps calms them down to sit listen and learn
DeleteIt seems that most students like the technology and anything that resembles a game! What a good way to learn!
DeleteI agree know they seen to love technology and their are some good games that help students not all but some
DeleteI think having different programs on the computer is very good for our students it helps them in specific areas where they need that extra help.
DeletePreviewing is looking at the material to acquire a basic understaning of the concept before it is presented to the class.
ReplyDeletePreteaching is also going over the material before class but also finding the best way to teach the student your working with on that particular subject.
Review is going back over the material you cover in class.
The modifications I use the most is cutting the work load for some students in half and taking some students into a quiter room to help them concentrate.
Quieter rooms are better for the students so they can stay focused and actual pay attention. We also do that and it works great.
Deletei agree!!! i take a student out for testing, same test but in a different room, just us so they can concentrate on the task at hand.
DeleteThat's a great ideal and if we go week by week and review to keep them ahead or on task it helps a bunch
DeleteI agree cutting the work load and taking them to a quiter room can be very beneficial to the students who tend to get overwhelmed when to much is at hand.
DeletePreviewing is allowing the student to see the material and to understand what they are going to learn. Its important to the student because they get a look at what they are eing tought before they are going to learn it. It also lets them get a better feel on what they are going to learn so they dont have to struggel.
ReplyDeletePreteaching is going over and basicly teaching them the material so they have a better understanding ofwhat they are going to learn. Its important so the student dont fall behind and they get a better ubderstanding of what they are going to learn in class.
Reviewing is were yougo over the material againg so the student has can refresh their memory about what they have learned. Its important to the student so the material can stick and they will understand the material. Sometimes a student just needs a second refreshment of the material so they can fully understand what they learned.
The Modifications that we use is cut spelling word so they only have a few so they don't have to learn all of them and so its not so overwhelming. We do a audio reading so our students can understand the reading materials. Makeing flash card so our kids can better understand they vocabulary words. In math we give place value charts, 100's charts so they can better understand math.
Yes we also cut down the work load it seems to help
DeletePreviewing with students means helping students acquire a basic understanding of the concept it is presented in the classroom.
ReplyDeletePreteaching is basicly the same thing you go over their material. Just teaching them in a different way.
Review is going back over that material in class.
The modification we use is to cut their work load down or let them tell us and we write it. We also sometimes take them to a quieter room to work.
Previewing means to go over the material with the students before the lesson is taught to give them a general understanding of what will be taught so it is not a surprise.
ReplyDeletePre-teaching is almost the same except you can expand on their background knowledge of the said lesson.
Reviewing is going over the material after the lesson has been taught and asking questions towards comprehension, what did they remember from the lesson, what can it relate to?
Some modifications that i have personally used with students have been to completely change what material they are using for certain areas of curriculum. mostly the modifications have been in math and one in reading. for the reading we preview and and i use a lot of reviewing and going back over material. i make index cards for spelling words and vocabulary words with simple definitions on the back so they can take it home and work with their parents.
We also make flash cards (index cards) for each of their vocabulary words, but we put the word, an antonym, and a synonym in the front. In the back we put the definition and sometimes a sentence to help them.
DeletePreviewing we go through the next week work organize it and file it all out day by day for the next week on the lessons we will go over them with try to stick with the week before lessons to move forward week by week
ReplyDeleteReviewing we do many learning lessons with paper and computer things as in reading eggs that helps and abc mouse which is a great program.
As a former elementary teacher, one of the most important lessons learned was the importance of previewing for students. At the beginning of every lesson it is important to let the students know where you are going with the lesson and how you are going to get there. This allows the students time to process what the final result will be and prepare them for the journey ahead.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite previewing activities is T.H.I.E.V.E.S. approach. This lends itself best to social studies and science textbooks. T.H.I.E.V.E.S.is an acronym for title, headings, introduction, every first sentence in a paragraph, visuals and vocabulary, end-of-chapter questions, and summary. You can have students read aloud as a group, a pair of students or individually.
It still amazes kids how much information you get using T.H.I.E.V.E.S. We have a couple of teachers that use it frequently.
DeletePreviewing is giving the information to the students before teaching the material so they can understand the information better or at least have a idea of the content. Preteaching is almost the same thing but in a different form or technique so the students can understand it better like visual prompts. Review means going over the material after it has been taught to see if the student has understand the material.
ReplyDeletein the classroom i work they use a lot of audio and visual so the students can hear and then see what they suppose to do i really like it because not all students learn the same way.
