Explain the difference between accommodations and modifications. Choose one of the frequently asked questions at the end of the chapter and explain what you would do in this instance.
For our school we accommodate with students to be in the same class as their peers and work in a class setting as anyone else or eating lunch or school activities they all get a opportunity to do what they like to do to be involved in the activities or school setting like anyone else but the nice thing is that we do not have kids pick on kids or a lot of bulling at all they treat them the same as any other kids it's nice. Modifications on the other hand the teachers work very well with us on when a test is coming up or a group project it's nice cause we have to take all modifications to our boss and she lets us know what is going on and takes care of the worksheets and test or study guides for each class. We keep a daily log of each student we assist and help or have to work with so if our boss has any questions we can go back to it and explain what and why we or she did the certain change on the work
Making on the spot accommodations becomes easier as you get to know the students, and the teachers sometimes ask for suggestions when making modifications. It really helps when the teachers let us know of the modifications in advance of tests and big projects.
i work with a couple students that we make modifications for and one that i make accommodations. such as taking the test in a quiet room away from the other students so they can concentrate. same test different way of taking it.
Accommodations is doing the same work, but maybe by a different means. Modifications change the assignment, material or grading to support the student.
I am sometimes asked to work with other students along with IEP students, especially in the classroom. I think this helps the IEP student feel less isolated and the other students to know that getting a little extra help once in awhile is ok. It also frees the teacher to work with the majority of the class. Everybody wins.
i also help with other students that aren't part of the program. i believe it helps because then the student isn't isolated and feels bad because they learn differently. i also make sure that my student comes first with me but i'm not limited to helping others
Accommodation means you accommodate to help the students needs. We have a student that has a muscle disorder and we let him sit in a chair rather than the floor because it is hard for him to get up. Modification means not nessisarily making everything easier for the student but maybe cutting down the work load or using different methods of teaching. We have an autistic student and he gets worked up if he thinks there is just way to much going on in a work sheet or to long of a paragraph that he needs to read. So we will cut down some of the problems or fold the paper so he cant see how long the paragraph is and that usually makes everything bettter. Question- Is it okay to work with students that are not special education students? Yes we work with the students around the student we are there for. I feel it helps the teacher out and makes the other student more comfortable with my presence.
I think it helps build the students confidence more. It also lets them know that they aren't the only ones that need help and that they are not the only ones that feel that way.
Accommodation means that you monitor and adjust the assignments for the students this is more of what well help them to get what needs to be done. Such as seeing the board better to copy notes or setting closer to the front to be able to hear the teacher teach the lesson and understand what is expected. This allows them to feel more independent which greatly benefits them in the long run. Modification means you cut back on the assignment that is assigned this has been allowed by the teacher and gives the student the allotted time to get the assignment done. This gives the student more of a better understanding on what is needed to be done and helps them understand the material better because they aren't so overwhelmed with so much work to do.
Question is it okay to work with students that are not special education students. We work our special education students but if their is a student who isn't in special education we help them too. We let them know that we have our students to help but if they feel they need help and cants get help from the teacher because she is busy to please let us know if we can help them in anyway. This helps the student and the teacher at the same time and you still have your special education student on task.
Lucy - It is not a problem to help other students as long as the student that you are in the classroom for doesn't need your assistance at that time. As paras you all sign a 100% time and effort paper for the federal government. Your focus should be on the special education student, but if another student asks for help you can help them too, just not at the expense of the special education student.
According to the text, the difference between accommodations and modifications is whether the outcome for the student is changed. If the outcome is not changed, it is an accommodation. If the end result is changed, it is a modification.
Accommodations is monitor and adjust instructions, assignments ,or the environment to meet the needs of the students. We have a child with a muscle disorder and to make it easier for him we let him sit in a chair at morning meeting rather than the floor. Modifications involve presentation, materials, grading, and assessments, and the outcome for the student is different from that of the peer group. We have a chd with autism and he gets worked up over all the work that he has to do. Its normally because he already understands it and doesn't want to do more then he has to. Ouestion: Is it ok to work with students who are not special education students? Answer : yes I think its good to help more than just the student your there for, because it helps rthe teacher tour with. It also gives the student your there for a chance to do some of the work on their own.
Accommodation is an adjustment so that the student learns the same material, but in a format that best helps the student. Modification is changing material to make it easier, like adjustments to test or assignments, that are determined by the students IEP. The last question I had a subject that I didn't understand, but I still went to class and I took notes. I also made sure the student I had in there was asking the teacher for help, because I didn't know how to help him with it. There were times I would take notes and show my supervisor then she would work with the student when we were in our home room.
I agree we should write down the things we don't understand. This gives us the chance to ask the other paras questions or our supervisor questions that we may not of understood. This gives the teacher plenty of time to teach the class without us having to interrupt them.
The difference between accommodations and modifications is the outcome or result. to make accommodations you will have the same outcome/result; it might take a different way of getting there. Modifications is changing the results/outcome and methods of getting there. the FAQ i chose to address was what if you aren't comfortable with the subject material. to address this question i would answer that you can learn along with the student, that will help with your relationship with the student but being on the same page and you can figure things out together, to be able to relate to your students. also just to ask questions. students might have the same questions but be afraid of getting made fun of by their peers but if they see an adult asking, they might think well, i guess they didn't know either?! also to just ask the supervising teachers.
When I have a problem or a question that I don't understand I will skip it and go back at the end of the hour to ask the teacher or my supervisor and then I will help the student. I will also wait till the teacher is no longer lecturing or helping other student then I will go ask her in class.
The difference of accommodations and modifications is the result. modification most all the time involves change in the content witch makes the results be different. I work with a child that is Autistic most all the time we are modifying the strategies for him to meet his goals. it is okay to work with other students who are not special education. i think students should be involve so they do not feel left out.

ReplyDeleteI think paras can make a lot of accommodations, but generally it is the teacher who makes the modifications for the para to implement. Right?
