I believe special needs students benefit from inclusion in that they are a part of the class. Inclusion, in turn, benefits the class by teaching them how to accept those with special needs and adapt to different situations in the classroom.
Kids with special needs deffinantly need to be with other kids, because it does benifit them. It also teaches them how to act and how they should behave with other kids. Also shows them how to listen and have respect for the teacher. Inclusion in classrooms are good so that they can learn the lessons just like the other kids and feel equal to the other kids in the class room.
I agree with what you chose as a benefit. Teaching the general education students that some people are different and have a different way of learning and doing things is a major benefit to the gen. ed. population as well as the special education student. because once they leave high school they will figure out that not everyone is the same, no one does the same thing the same way act. and special education students receive the benefit of socialization and the same instruction as much as possible.
The communication and collaboration is good, because when the student is incuded in the classroom the teacher and para are able to communicate and talk about how to help and the progress of the student. The teacher has more backround on the student and how they work and how to help them. We would have good communication with the teacher so we would both help the student become better at working.
I agree that most often the general education teacher knows the most about the student and how they function in the classroom. The general education teacher also knows the most about the subject they teach, especially at the high school level. Communication and collaboration between special education and general education can only benefit the child, as well as make everyone's job easier.
one of the inclusion benefits that really hit home with me was the last one listed. Inclusive education benefits the majority of students. when two or more adult work collaboratively in the classroom, questions are answered quickly, projects are easily monitored and all students receive more individualized attention. students accept one another as contributing members of the school community. i have one particular class that this is really true. the teacher and i have a great working relationship and communication. If student A is missing some work, she will find me and let me know and I make sure Student A works on it in their study class. Other students in said classroom are welcome to ask me for help and i help them as well as my student, granted i know the answer. I also gladly keep an eye on the classroom for disruptive students while teacher is teaching, knowing they can't watch and keep teaching to everyone while one or two students are being a mess. Said teacher has also asked me to help with a new sub that came to our school. Having good communication and collaboration has really helped me to enjoy my job and be a positive person for the kids to look up to and learn and enjoy class.
We are in great communication with our teachers we have students with missing work they will email we will gather up the work put it together and focuse when we have them to get caught up where they need to be plus also having an eligibility list to see what class so we go directly to that teacher and we all communicate very well it's nice
Effective collaboration is in my opinion the most beneficial for students with disabilities. As the book states "questions are answered more quickly" and "one person does not have to be an expert in all areas". It is important for all students to feel like they contribute. By collaborating, everyone is able to contribute, therefore self-esteem is raised.
I think the inlcusion benefits these children more than we think. It makes them feel included in the class that they belong there and arent as different. It makes them feel good and have more confidence when they can be with the class in group work and discussions. They are doing the same as everyone else which shows them that you also have confidence in them that they can do the same work as everyone else just with a little extra help and your thier for them if they need you.
I think that if we leave a student in class it helps their self-esteem, plus the student feels more comfortable with their peers and teachers. It also helps them build there self confidence. We have a student who does work study at a grocery store, last year we would go with him , and this year he goes alone and I think it also helps his self confidence with the community.

ReplyDeleteYou are right. Teamwork benefits the student. Sometimes it takes a village.
DeleteI agree we have them in class and they get called upon just like a regular student to answer a question

ReplyDeleteKrissann, sounds like you are a great support member in the classroom. I'll bet the teacher really appreciates you.
DeleteIt's really nice to hear that we also have a couple classes that we do the same thing
